In 2014 the IT business in Romania reached the highest value of 3.4 billion EUR including export of software and services (consultancy and IT support).

 

According to a study by KeysFin, in Romania there are 13 777 companies in IT sector with 63 059 employees with salaries between 500EUR and 3500EUR.

 

The top 5 companies in IT are Oracle Romania SRL,IBM Romania SRL, Siveco Romania SA, Romsys SRL and Teamnet International SA. Other important companies from IT sector are Microsoft Romania SRL, Hewlett Packard, Asesoft International SA, XOR-IT Systems SRL and Export One Research SRL. These companies together reached a turnover in value of 2.23 billion EUR in 2014.

 

Besides the fact the key players managed to double or tripled the turnover, from 2010 until 2014, these companies increased the number of employees like IBM (from 662 to 1817) or Oracle (from 1396 to 2470).

 

Not only big corporations developed their business in the last years but in the last 4 years there was also a high increasing rate of number of small companies or start-ups focused on software development.

 

There are companies with 20-50 employees focused on the latest technologies in virtual reality, cloud services, gamming and communication who are providing their services to important companies from Western Europe or US.

 

The increasing rate of the IT sector it is estimated at 25-30%/year.

 

The average annual business of IT sector it is estimated at 2.3 billion EUR but it is estimated that will reach the average value of 10 billion EUR/year.

 

With a number of 64 000 IT specialists Romania is on 1st place in Europe on number of IT specialists per capita.

 

The educational system provides 100.000 IT graduates per year, with 90% English speakers.

 

According to the governmental institutions the IT sector was the 3rd contributor to the GDP.

 

In this moment Romania is on the 5th place in the world on internet speed and in the top 20 cities with highest internet speed there are 6 Romanian cities (Bucharest on 4th, Galati on 7th, Iasi on 8th, Timisoara on 9th, Ploiesti on 10th and Oradea on 13).
